BIG NEWS FROM ATC!!!

We are excited to announce that this will be the last wedding season for All Things Creative. After a lot of soul searching Dan and I decided that it would be best for our family if we slowly phased out All Things Creative and I have accepted a position with Top That Event! I absolutely love the wedding and special event industry and I am thrilled to have found a company to continue my career. At the end of the day, it's the clients and details that I love, not owning a business.

I am beyond proud of the business All Things Creative became and I am confident we could have continued to grow into THE leading event company in our area but after a lot of research, discussion, and thought, the realization is that growing a business the way we wanted to was taking too much time away from our daughters. We only have a few years with them at home before they start school and grow up.

The leadership team at Top That Event has been more than gracious to work with our schedule allowing us to finish all of our weddings and take care of our clients the way only we can.

For those of you that know me well, you know I LOVE Oprah, so just like Oprah, we are moving onto the next chapter. While she won't host the Oprah show any longer, she will still have the OWN Network, same thing... sort of :)

We also plan to count down our remaining 27 weddings for this season plus one we have next April. Coincidently enough, our last wedding is at Cobblestone Farm in Ann Arbor where Dan and I had our wedding reception, the perfect way to end this chapter.

Last but certainly not least I want to thank my husband. This started as a dream and developed into an amazing reality. I would not be where I am today with out his love and support. Dan... THANK YOU! I am so blessed to be married to you. I hope all of the couples we've worked with are lucky enough to have a partner as awesome as you. I love you.

Question of the day: How to honor a passed family member

Today's question of the day comes from Katie. She asked how to honor her grandpa that has passed. She wants to do something but not sure what.

*answer* Keep in mind that your wedding is a celebration and while you want to honor a loved one that has passed, you don't want a somber moment. Maybe you can pick one of their favorite songs and invite that side of the family out on the dance floor for a dance. Keep it up-beat and celebrate their life, not mourn their passing. If you do a photo montage, you could add pictures of them in there. I've seen a lot of people add something in their ceremony program.

You can place a small number on the back of the rsvp card that corresponds with each guest. If you place your guest list in an excel spread sheet that would help.

You have been flying high on the "engagement buzz" When all of a sudden reality sets in you:"I
have to plan this whole thing,where do I start?." Although it seems overwhelming don't let
the stress get to you. When broken down even the biggest tasks are manageable. I am sure
you have heard the saying:"A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step".
Well the same is to be said about planning your wedding.
ATC is here for you to break things down and let you enjoy all aspects of the big day.
Once a week we will be detailing the wedding timeline,what you should be doing when to give
you a little bit of guidance and structure to make planning easier for you.

A few things to think about 12 + months before your anticipated wedding date:

*What is your wedding style?*

Are you dreaming of a lavish,black tie affair? A celebration with all your
friends and family present. Maybe a cozy,more intimate gathering is more
your style,just family and those closest to you. There is no wrong idea.
Either party would be fabulous-just make sure to think about you want and
are most comfortable with. Keep your venue and colors in mind while planning. If you envision a pink and lime green wedding, I don't know that typical ballroom with red and gold carpet will be the match for you.

*What's the budget? *
Ah the budget...probably not the most enjoyable aspect to discuss,but could be
argued that it may be the most important. Who is paying and what will their contribution
be? Get these details hammered out in the beginning and let the planning begin!

*Start interviewing and gathering vendor recommendations*

*What is your preferred wedding date?*
Is there a date with a special meaning for the two for you? Sometimes a wedding date depends on the availability of a venue that you have fallen in love with. Decide what is important to you.
Start seeking out venues for your ceremony and reception.

*The dress*
When a girl dreams of her wedding day-the 2nd thing she is probably dreaming of is "the dress".(The first thing of course is the handsome groom :)! Starting early makes sense. There are so many choices. Allow yourself time to select something that is perfect for you.

Don't forget to get your groom involved,remember it's his special day too! And of course more help
always make tasks easier to tackle.

Non-Profit Panera Bread in Dearborn

I had a meeting today at the Panera Bread in Dearborn and found out that they have changed to a non profit. I've attached an article for you to review.

The basics are that they will not turn anyone away for a free meal. Since people are on such hard times, you can go and get a meal for free or a small amount. If you want to eat there and plan to pay for your meal, they will tell you what the "suggested price" is for your meal. That is the price it takes for them to cover costs of operation. Anything above that serves as a donation to the cause. I had to say I got choked up at this amazing idea. I would love for everyone to support it. I paid above the cost of my meal and the young man at the register lit up and said "You just paid for someone else to eat lunch, thank you!"

The irony: I just had a discussion with my husband Dan on how we can raise money through ATC for something similar.

There is a summer food service program for Detroit children.

Sometimes the only meal a child receives is the free lunch at school. During the summer months there may be days that they don't eat. What about mom?

Ladies lets talk for a minute. This is definitely the mom in me speaking but if I could just pose a question and provoke some thought for a couple of minutes.

Your wedding day is by far one of the most important days of your life. Whether or not you've been looking forward to it since you were little or never thought about the day a moment in your life, your mother has. Finding your dress should be a special moment and should include your mom, but what is your mom going to wear?

My suggestion is that you plan a "date" with your mom and take her out for "mother of the bride dress" shopping. Take her out to the dress shop and help her pick out her dress. Maybe you can even follow it up with a mani/pedi and dinner. She will love it!

I know at times moms can seem a little overbearing but I promise it is only because she wants the best for you. As a mom, I realize everyday that Claire and Chloe are going to grow up and "leave the nest" I try everyday to take it all in and soak up every minute. As a mom, you only get a short amount of time with your kids before they're off to college and growing up. So try to be patient with your mom and include her as much as possible.

Amazing Wedding at The Henry in Dearborn

We were lucky enough to get to work with Todd and his team at the Henry in Dearborn this past weekend. Pat and Shelby were married on Saturday February 12th and asked us to work with them for floral and day of coordination. Pat just so happens to be my husbands "BFF" so Dan was in the wedding. We had Andrea our Associate Coordinator on the job so after all of the set up, I could actually enjoy the wedding as a guest. I can't wait to work with Todd again! I am in LOVE with the Henry. The staff consistently goes above and beyond. From keeping your water glass full before it even gets to the bottom to refolding your napkin while you step away from the table. All Things Creative has an amazing opportunity for those that are interested. We are looking to fill one to two internship positions.

We are looking for an extremely motivated individual(s) that have an interest in event planning and hospitality.

At All Things Creative, we believe if you work hard you’re the one who will reap the rewards – both personally and professionally. More than any other place you’ll work, we are dedicated to honing your skills, helping you grow and making sure you have plenty of fun doing it.

We will be accepting resumes from February 1st, 2011 to February 15th, 2011.

The internship is an unpaid position but the experience you will gain is priceless. Big Week For ATC by Rachel (AKA All Things Creative)

I am so happy right now. It's been a big week for All Things Creative we were voted Best of 2011 for The Knot, we launched our new website, and our new ads on Perfect Wedding Guide and Brides Michigan went live.

I went to a NACE meeting (National Association of Catering Executives) and I am excited to work with the board and programing committee to help schedule all of the educational meetings we will have throughout the year.

There is something so warm, gentle, and relaxing about candles. When talking with our clients about their floral and decor budget, we always suggest that you devote a good amount of your overall decor budget to candles. Number one rule when using candles for decor at a party, keep them out of high traffic areas.

FINALLY.... #1 (although they weren't in a particular order based on importance) :)

Let the Party Reflect Your Taste

Entertaining is really just about putting your taste and style on display. Your table is a reflection of who you are as a host, just as your wardrobe is a reflection of who you are as a person. If you've got a signature color, incorporate it in the table setting. Perhaps you're never seen in town without your pearls-- weave long strands of faux pearls with strung cranberries, and use the garland to outline the table runner.

Maybe you can't quite figure out how to parlay your taste into a decorating scheme or signature cocktail. Don't try to force it, or you'll only strike a false note. Crystal stemware and bone china won't look right in a room with Metallica posters on the wall, or if you're serving Buffalo wings and beer.

Let's not over think this point. As the hostess, the most important thing you can do is put your guests at ease. Ideally, you want your guests to know that everything has been taken care of -- they have all the flatware, glassware, plates and condiments they will need over the course of the meal, as well as enough room to eat comfortably and converse with other diners. A room full of cozy, well-fed guests equals one happy hostess. And during the frenetic holiday season, you couldn't really ask for more than that.

#6. Invest in Cookwear

The quality of your food affects your dinner party the most. And some cookware is beautiful enough to do double duty as serving dishes. Glossy Dutch ovens, white Apilco dinnerware and even Pyrex dishes can go from kitchen to table. Passing around dishes family-style is a good conversation starter and makes the mood cozy.

#5. Create a Child-Friendly Zone

Many of us would love to throw an elegant party year after year, but at a certain point, even if you've been drinking too much champagne to notice, many of our friends become parents. If you entertain quite a bit and those friends bring fabulous hostess gifts, you might want to consider inviting their children to your next party.

You've got a couple of options here. You could hire a baby sitter to keep the kids entertained in the rec room or a spare bedroom. (Side note: Keep in mind that not every child will go for this option. The thought of being separated from mom and dad in a strange home might leave your littlest guest clinging to mom or dad.) Some board games, chicken fingers and a stack of kid-friendly DVDs will keep kids occupied long enough for their parents to enjoy a few cocktails and dinner courses. Or, you can set up a kids' table adjacent to the adults' so everyone can have dinner together. If you're going this route, keep a few things in mind. First, in case things get messy, spread a sheet or painter's tarp under the table. Second, kids will appreciate a special place setting, too, so add personalized place cards at their designated spots. An activity will keep them focused, so top the table with a long sheet of butcher's paper, and give the kids plenty of crayons to draw with. When you're ready to serve coffee and dessert over at the adults' table, supply the kids with a platter of sugar cookies, tubs of frosting, colored sugar and sprinkles.

Cater to the kids as much as you like, but don't let them use your fine china. Never put anything at a children's table that might cause you to be upset if it broke. There's some great plasticware on the market right now. Plus, it puts the kids' parents at ease if they don't have to be watching their child like a hawk.

#4. Linen Napkins

Nothing turns down the volume on an elegant dinner party quite like paper napkins. When you're entertaining, nice napkins are a non-negotiable. Choose off-white linens, the color shows fewer stains, party after party. The napkins should be soft but not leave lint all over your guests' clothes. A thoughtful hostess will have a stash of black napkins for guests wearing dark-colored clothing. To prepare your linen napkins for dinner service, you've got to iron them. (Yes, it's a hassle, but each little detail adds up to a perfect table.) Drape a terry-cloth towel across your ironing board to create an even surface, and iron with the weave of the fabric. Use a little starch to get a crisp finish; it will also serve as a stain-blocker.

As the hostess, there's a good chance you'll have to excuse yourself from the table during the meal to check on your chocolate soufflé or grab another bottle of wine. Mind your manners, and place the napkin in your chair -- not on the table or the back of your seat as some waiters are apt to do in restaurants.

#3 Home Decor

Adding little touches throughout your home adds an element of that is sure to keep your friends wondering how you can give so much attention to all of the little details. If your party has a theme or is based on a season or holiday use that as your starting point. If it's a Christmas party and you've decided to use red and white as your "colors" add little touches to the bar, the buffet table and even an arrangement of fresh red and white flowers in your restroom.

#7. Give Your Guests a Clear View

A centerpiece and/or candles should not block the view across the table. Yes, you can have a large centerpiece or tall candlesticks but move them off the table once people sit down.

Sure, the centerpiece is supposed to be the focal point of the table (more on that later), but it doesn't make or break a dinner party like good conversation can. And how do you talk to your fellow dinner guests when you can't see the ones on the other side of the table?

If you insist upon a towering, dramatic centerpiece, don't be a bad sport about moving it to a nearby credenza when guests sit down. And remember, if you're dining room isn't gigantic, you probably don't need a humongous centerpiece. Keep the arrangement in proportion with the size of the room.

#8 Expect Hungry and Thirsty Guests

Whether you're hosting a cocktail party or a dinner party, within the first hour your guests arrive, they're going to be putting down some drinks as they mingle.

You don't need a bar per se, but you do need to devote some area of your space to alcohol if your guests drink. To avoid traffic jams in your living room, it might help to stick the bar (whether it's a dresser you've borrowed from your bedroom, a console table or a proper drinks cabinet) in the corner of the room. The bottom line is that no matter where you put the bar, people will find it.

It is also recommended that you get a bartender for parties with more than 30 guests in attendance. At cocktail parties, anticipate that your guests will down two drinks apiece in the first hour, then one drink per hour for the remainder of the party. As for food, allot 10 appetizers per person for cocktail parties and six per person for dinner parties. Whether you're passing hors d'oeuvres or arranging them on a buffet, having plenty keeps guests happy.

You can crunch numbers galore to get rough estimates for your party, but don't get consumed by the numbers. A host who worries too much throws a tense party.

#9. Think Outside the Dinner Table

As we learned in the previous post ample square footage is super important for your guests to be comfortable and enjoy the festivities. Just skip the seated dinner and host a standing-room party with heavy hors d'oeuvres and a signature cocktail.

Here are a few signature cocktail recipes and a list of hors d'oeuvres to make your holiday party the best ever.

Signature Cocktail...

White Christmas

1 1/2 ounces white chocolate liqueur
1 ounce Southern Comfort
4 ounces eggnog (homemade or prepared)

Mix all ingredients gently and serve in a cocktail glass. Sprinkle with chocolate shavings or cinnamon for garnish, if desired.

Christmas Cranberry

1 ounce cranberry vodka (or plain vodka)
1 ounce hazelnut liqueur or Amaretto
3 ounces cranberry juice
2 ounces orange juice (without pulp)

Combine in a cocktail shaker over ice. Strain into glasses filled with crushed ice and garnish with orange slices or frozen cranberries.

Peppermint Martini Recipe
Ingredients
5 ounces of Chopin vodka
2 ounces of white Creme de Menthe
1/2 ounce of Peppermint Schnapps
Mini candy canes
The mix
Pour all of your liquid ingredients into a shaker 1/2 full of cracked ice.
Give a good 20 vigorous shakes and let the shaker rest for half a minute.
Strain your lucious peppermint martini into 2 freezing martini glasses.
Add a candy cane in each glass for garnish

Hors D'Oeuvres

Beef Tenderloin and Pear Onion Skewers

Recipes for skewered foods usually instruct you to broil the already-assembled skewers, turning each one individually to ensure even cooking. We find it more efficient to cook the unskewered cubes in a skillet, which allows you to easily flip them with a spatula. Plus, if you run out of time before the party, you can always just put out the beef cubes, the onions, and a pile of skewers and encourage guests to assemble the hors d’oeuvres themselves.

Ingredients

FOR THE ONIONS

1 (10-ounce) bottle cocktail onions
1 tablespoon butter
salt and pepper

FOR THE BEEF TENDERLOIN

1 pound beef tenderloin, cut into 3/4-inch cubes
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh rosemary
1 teaspoon coarse salt
1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
2 to 3 tablespoons olive oil

Directions

PREPARE THE ONIONS

Drain the cocktail onions and soak them in a large bowl filled with cold water for about 1 hour. Change the water and soak for another hour. (This tones down the intense vinegar flavor just a bit.) Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring, about 4 minutes (the onions may lightly brown—that’s fine). Add salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.

PREPARE THE BEEF

Put the tenderloin cubes, garlic, rosemary, salt and pepper in a resealable plastic bag and gently shake until cubes are coated. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over high heat. When oil is hot, add the beef and sear until the outsides of the cubes are brown and insides are still rare, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat.

Put one onion, then one beef tenderloin cube, on each skewer or toothpick, so the hors d’oeuvres will stand up on a platter, each skewer sticking out the top. Serve warm.

Bite-Size Crab Cakes with Lemon Caper Mayo

There’s much debate about how to make the perfect crab cake. Some people will tell you that using saltine crackers or bread crumbs is heresy, but we find the saltines help the cakes hold their shape yet still let the crab flavor come through. This is one of those deceptively easy hors d’oeuvres that guests think you slaved over.

Ingredients

FOR THE MAYO

1 cup mayonnaise
4 tablespoons chopped chives
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon drained capers, roughly chopped
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/2 teaspoon liquid from the caper jar

FOR THE CRAB CAKES

1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
pinch salt
1 pound lump crabmeat, drained and picked over to remove any shell*
1 cup finely crushed saltine crackers (from 25 to 28 crackers)**
vegetable oil, for oiling the baking sheet

*Use fresh or, if fresh isn't available, frozen, but not canned.
**You can use a food processor to do this, but we hate to haul ours out for one quick task. Our low-tech method: Put the saltines in a resealable plastic bag, squeeze out the extra air, and seal. Use a rolling pin to crush the crackers inside the bag.

Directions

PREPARE THE MAYO

Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl.

PREPARE THE CRAB CAKES

Preheat broiler.

In a large bowl, mix the first six ingredients until thoroughly blended. Gently stir in the crabmeat and saltines.

Form the mixture into 1-inch balls and arrange them on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Gently press each ball until it flattens into a cake about 1 1/2 to 2 inches across. Broil the crab cakes, turning once halfway through, until they’re browned on both sides, 5 to 6 minutes. Serve warm.

Makes about 40 crab cakes and 1 1/2 cups of mayo.

Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce

In this recipe, marinating the chicken makes it super-tender, so it’s easy to eat from a skewer. We’ve read instructions for soaking the wooden skewers in water to keep them from burning in the oven, but at the low cooking temperature in this recipe, ours have always been fine without soaking.

Ingredients

FOR THE CHICKEN

2 tablespoons dry white wine
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
3 large garlic cloves, minced
1 egg white
1/2 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes
1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips 3 inches long, 1/2 inch wide
salt, for sprinkling on the chicken

FOR THE PEANUT SAUCE

2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
3 scallions, finely chopped (white and pale green parts)
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
1/2 cup high-quality creamy peanut butter
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
2 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes
36 wooden skewers

Directions

PREPARE THE CHICKEN

Whisk the first six ingredients together in a medium bowl. Add the chicken and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Thread one strip of chicken onto each skewer accordion-style and place on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Bake until chicken is just cooked through, 10 to 12 minutes. Sprinkle lightly with salt.

PREPARE THE PEANUT SAUCE

In a saucepan, heat the sesame oil over moderate heat until hot. Add scallions, garlic, and ginger. Cook, stirring, until scallions are wilted, about 1 minute. Stir in 1 cup water and the peanut butter, soy sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes and bring to a simmer, stirring until the sauce is smooth. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature (it continues to thicken as it cools).

Serve the skewers warm or at room temperature, with peanut sauce and a bowl or plate to hold discarded skewers.

Makes about 36 skewers and 2 cups of sauce.

NO EFFORT Buy a commercial peanut sauce.
LOW EFFORT Buy a commercial peanut sauce and soup it up a bit by whirring it in a food processor with 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce, 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter, and 2 minced garlic cloves (adjust these amounts to taste).

Check out this perfect formula to determine the perfect number of guests for a cocktail party. Divide the square footage of your home by five (the approximate number of feet each guest needs in personal space). That number equals how many people can fit comfortably in your home. Then, assume that 80 percent of your invitees will accept the invitation, but that five of those people won't end up coming. For example, if you've got 100 square feet of space in your home, you can fit 20 guests. But really, you can invite 25 because just 16 will plan to come in the first place, and one will claim to be violently ill the day of the party. :)

Should you allow your single guests to bring a date?

This is a debate for the books and probably always will be. If money is tight for the wedding than it may be something to consider but keep in mind you want your guests to have a great time and enjoy themselves at your wedding. I think it's appropriate to deal with this problem on a case-by-case basis. If you have unmarried friends and relatives in long-term relationships, you might want to consider inviting their partners. (Even though they're not married, they're committed.) Then, invite your more single friends and relatives without dates rather than crossing them off your guest list all together. If you choose to do assigned seating, carefully consider where to seat them at the wedding; you may want to put them with other singles so they won't get stuck at a table of couples. Who knows, two of your guests might even make a match at your wedding!

Sample Tables from The Whimsical Occasions Bridal Show on 9/26

We were lucky enough to be the exclusive floral and design company at the recent Whimisical Occasions Wedding Event Show this past Sunday at the Crofoot in Pontiac. It was a great facility and I would love to have a wedding there. We designed and created six table-scapes with help from Chair Covers and Linens, Sweet and Savory Bake Shop, and Special Occasions. They all pulled together to help bring my vision to life.

This is a design I called Natural Chic. I LOVED this design.

I used 3 linens for this table. The top layer was a burlap (yes, I said Burlap) linen, under that was a lace linen, and a basic ivory linen under that.

I used a real birch log to serve as the center of the table which was surrounded by fresh flowers in mason jars, and bird shaped bud vases. I used antique looking soy wax candles that were left over from a past bride. She was kind enough to give them to me and I think super happy to have them out of her house :)

This was my other favorite table!!! I called it "Ridiculously Fabulous" There were only two colors purple and silver. It was a totally blinged out table and I loved every minute of putting it together. I used purple carnations (which look great if used correctly), lots of crystals, candles, and branches. I added orchids to the silver branches for an extra pop of fabulous. I had a plum satin table linen with a silver sparkle table runner. I had a square arrangement made of carnations with a mirror on top with silver tea light holders. I had the most amazing silver chargers and chivari chairs as well. This table will be featured in a real wedding next year at the Motor City Casino Sound Board.

This was a fun and easy table which was green, black and white. There was a black and white damask table linen under the green clover table linen. I used hydrangea and orchids for the flowers.
I called this table "Fall In Love" It consisted of a brown table linen with orange, yellow, and red flowers. I had a tall cylinder vase in the middle with branches and a few fresh blooms mixed in.

I loved this arrangement as well. It was a pink and burgundy color scheme. In the arrangement I used hydrangea, orchids, and roses with a little filler mixed in.

I spoke with Deb from the sweet and savory bake shop and asked if she could contribute a cake centerpiece to one of our tables. I told her the colors were navy and silver. I couldn't have been any happier with the cake she brought. I think it matched the table awesome!

Hannah contacted me a few months before her wedding for assistance with her day of coordination, wedding set-up and tear down. Hannah had an amazing vision for her day and my team and I had a blast bringing it to life. She thought of every little detail that would compliment her wedding venue Lovett Hall. She brought in vintage cameras, pictures of their family, a photobooth/photo shoot area complete with a chalk board and white frame for added flair, stir sticks and straws for the bar, and amazing stationary. She made all of her floral arrangements. I am typically not a fan of silk flowers but she chose some amazing flowers.

"ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS WHAT EVER IT TAKES" With every event, we understand that each couple is putting an enormous amount of trust into us and our services, that is something we don't take lightly. I found myself ironing table linens on Sunday,...in a tent,... it was 94 degrees outside and I was happy to do it. Dan had to remove a dead bird from the front door of the house, where the processional started. He then put his suit on and performed their ceremony. That is how we operate each and every time. Although we prefer to not remove dead birds at every wedding :)

I feel so honored to be a part of such a special day. It is the first day of your marriage, not just a wedding. Through Facebook, I have been lucky enough to keep up with quite a few of my past clients. I will get to watch these special people celebrate their anniversaries, welcome their first child, and all of lifes special moments. Having a small part in creating the first day of their lives together is amazing to me. Whether I tied a sash on a chair cover, hand tied the bride’s bouquet, pined on the groom’s boutonniere, or confirmed all of the vendors arrival time; I am truly blessed to do what I love. So much work goes into creating the vision of our client. I think it's great when all the vendors work together to create the look. One picture that comes to mind when I think of this is the picture that Crystal Gardens in Howell uses, taken by Craig David Butler. The brides reaction is amazing.

You can name them after cities that mean a lot to you and you have been to together, the word "LOVE" in different languages, classic movies, favorite love songs through out your relationship, favorite quote, verse or words from the vows you'll take, favorite flowers, islands you'll visit if you are taking a tropical honeymoon, etc.

There are a lot of options when it comes to choosing your menu, buffet, plated, family style, just to name a few. My favorite is the Family Style Meal. It typically offers your guests two meats as well as all of the sides. I think there is something about buffet style that is a bit of a turn off to me. When we are at a wedding, if the bride and groom are offering a buffet to their guests, we will serve the wedding couple. NO BRIDE SHOULD HAVE TO SERVE HERSELF IN A BUFFET LINE IN HER WEDDING GOWN. Buffet was once thought to be a money saver but that is actually not always the case. Most venues have to purchase more food to make sure the buffet stays full. With plated it can be so time consuming to indicate which guests requested the chicken, or beef, or vegetarian, or vegan, or have a gluten allergy... etc. You get the point.

It's natural for guests to get up and mingle, it's nice to offer them somewhere else to stand and catch up other than in line at the bar or "stealing" another guests seat. A lounge area can be as simple as a cluster of high tops with and small low tables with seating or you can go as elaborate as a full space sectioned off with drapery, couches, tables, and of course candles.

It's a super cute way to add another personal touch to your day. I love this idea I found online. The bride had a back story to why she chose the signature drink she offered at her wedding.

I am not one for cheesy traditions for weddings... NO DOLLAR DANCES PLEASE!!!!!!! I am a fan of the Anniversary Dance (but not to Kenny Rogers "Through The Years", that's cheesy) What you do is have all of the married couples out on the dance floor and then the band or dj counts down the years starting with couples married 5 years or less. Those couples have to leave the dance floor. Then couples married 10 years or less have to leave the dance floor, etc. At the end of the dance will be the couple married the longest and (if they're willing) will offer some wedding advice to you and your new spouse. Very sweet! It's also a great way to incorporate another one of your favorite songs.

Photo albums are great, they require no work once they are done. You can set them on your coffee table and look back at the pictures any time you want to take a walk down memory lane. A lot of couples say "we'll never sit down and watch our wedding dvd". That statement might be true but live video catches moments in your wedding day in a way that nothing else can. I saw a wedding trailer once where the father saw his daughter in her dress for the first time. He was fighting back the tears, as he went in for a hug, you couldn't see his face anymore, as the camera moved around to see her father, you could see that he lost his battle to hold back his tears and they were streaming down his face. He was beaming with pride. My hubby said it best when he said "just because you have a subscription to Sports Illustrated, you wouldn't cancel ESPN"

In no particular order... #8 "The story of us" It's nice to have some sort of story of the two of you as a couple, especially if you have friends and family that are out of town or aren't familiar with your story. Something other than just a traditional slide show of pictures. We are proud to offer a "Story of Us" service for our couples to share at their wedding. This can play during the dinner portion of your reception, after dinner leading into your first dance, or playing as your guests walk into the reception facility. The story would include pictures, music, and an interview of the two of you telling your story as a couple through your eyes. I found this clip on the internet about a couple that discovered they crossed paths at Disney World as children before they ever met. Funny enough, my husband and I recently discovered that he took one of my classmates to our homecoming dance (we went to different schools) I wonder if we saw each other that night.

I think music is amazing. It's also pretty cool that there can be a song to sum up your relationship or that marks a certain point in your relationship together. My husband and I have quite a few songs which I am happy to share a couple here with you. I feel honored every time I watch a couple take the dance floor for their first dance. It is such a special moment and I can't believe I am so lucky to be there to witness it. These are some of my favorite songs. ENJOY!!!!

To celebrate my looming 30th birthday this Saturday, I am sharing "My Favorite 30 Things" (for weddings of course) everyday this June. In no particular order... #3. WORKING WITH MY PREFERRED VENDORS. There is nothing like the feeling I get when I meet with a bride for day of coordination and she says these amazing six words... "I am working with Mike Staff" It's like the clouds part and the angels sing! There is nothing like working a wedding with a Mike Staff productions DJ. I KNOW the evening is going to be amazing. The Mike Staff DJ's are so professional and they know what they are doing. I had the pleasure (fyi... bold italics is serving as a "sarcastic" font for this post) of working with a limo company this past Sunday for a wedding. They were NOT a preferred vendor and they did an AWFUL job. They sent a bus with no a/c and the temperature was pushing 93 on Belle Isle. The maid of honor got so hot she almost passed out. Once the ceremony began, the bus died. The driver assured me they would have another one within 30 minutes. TWO HOURS after the ceremony ended, the new bus arrived. The bride and groom missed their cocktail hour.
Prior to the wedding day, the limo company originally told me they would provide a shuttle at a discounted rate to take guests to the hotel after the reception. Once the bride and groom agreed and I called to book this service , the discount was no longer available, we passed. Due to the complications with the bus breaking down, they did provide the shuttle to try and compensate the bride and groom. I made sure to call this company this week to express my extreme disappointment and have not had my phone call returned yet. I was also greeted on the phone by a very rude receptionist.
THE REASON FOR THIS RANT...THERE IS A REASON I RECOMMEND THE VENDORS I RECOMMEND.
We have a quote we say at All Things Creative "Price is what you pay, value is what you get" I KNOW there are vendors out there that charge less than some of my preferred vendors. Peace of mind is priceless! Knowing that your day is in professional capable hands is the best gift I can give you.
My poor bride sent me a text message from the hot bus on her way to the reception site that said "I wish I would have listened to you" I felt AWFUL! I wish I could have changed it for her. If you would like to know the name of the company, feel free to call.... Here is a clue... "In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit"

I LOVE to see old friends reunite and get together for such a special occasion. It is a rare occasion that the groomsmen don't have me laughing every few minutes. I like hearing all of the old stories about how everyone met. There is always one bridesmaid that would do ANYTHING for her friend, the bride on the day of the wedding. I enjoy doing it for her so she can actually relax and enjoy the day with her best friend. Friends and family are an important part of such a special occasion so make sure to spend it with the ones you love!

I finally got a chance to update our gallery and testimonials page and added two weddings. I still have about 3 more to add. One day at a time I guess :)

Hey Ladies,

I came across Brides Project at a Whimsical Occasions Wedding Event Show and had to pass the information along to you. Here is some information about the process.

"What can you do with your wedding dress after the big day?

One option you can consider is to donate your dress to The Brides' Project. The Brides' Project seeks gown donations from all of the US. The proceeds from the sales of its pre-loved wedding dresses and accessories are donated to charities that help children and families touched by cancer. By "recycling" your wedding dress, you also help the environment, and perhaps even help another bride get the dress of her dreams, all while helping kids with cancer.

Parting with your wedding dress is a personal choice. The Brides' Project just wants you to know that we are an option, and we promise your dress will make a difference in many lives!"

Being a mother of two AMAZING girls, I don't know what I would do if one of them became ill. When you have a child, they are your entire life. My heart aches for children and their families that are suffering from cancer. I love what the team at The Brides' Project is doing and I would love to help any way I can.

AMAZING NEW FLORAL AND LINEN SAMPLES

I LOVE BEING CREATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!! I was able to create two sample tables this weekend and I couldn't have been any happier with the outcome! The first table was inspired by fall colors using roses, orchids, mini calla lilies and greenery. The second was a spring garden theme. I used wheat grass, gerbera daisies, mums, branches, and greenery. I also provided the stationary, favors, linens and chargers. All Things Creative offers linen rental and full floral design for your event. In the amazing pictures below (courtesy of my talented sister Sarah www.sarahmwolfephotography.com) you will see some amazing little cupcakes and they were created by Erin from Classic Confections. They were also garden themed with a little white picket fence. ADORABLE!!!! She is so talented! Erin is a preferred vendor for All Things Creative and my lovely clients.
